Today is indeed the last Fifth Thursday before I leave my 30s behind. The day is half over and I can't point to any noteworthy events. I think I'm going to walk to the store after work and buy some lottery tickets since the foundation of this blog is a theory that this is my lucky day (or my unlucky day but let's be positive). I'm going to spend exactly $5 and buy one Powerball, one Mega Millions, one Lotto, one Hit 5, and one Match 4. I'm sure the person who rings me up will think I've got a screw loose but my odds of winning are actually better that way. I go from no chance at winning anything to a long shot at five different games. Contrast that to spending all $5 on one game... those five chance are effectively the same long shot as one chance but I only get to play once. This is why I only ever spend $1 on lottery tickets when I buy them... going from zero chance to some chance is the only time your odds increase significantly.
UPDATE 6/30 @8PM
So I found that the Match 4 tickets actually cost $2. I could have said I didn't want it and gotten a Daily Game ticket instead but since the the ticket was already printed I decided not to risk giving up a ticket that could already be a winner. I figured having 5 tickets was the most important part to stay true to my lucky number. Then, on my walk back, I found exactly 5 pennies laying in the street... hopefully 5 lucky pennies, but we shall see.
