Greatest Hits of 2010

It's time to recap the top Greatest Hits compilations released in 2010.  And, yes, I'm still buying CDs...

I've waited years for this CD and it did not disappoint.  Steve released a weak greatest hits collection called Chronicles at the end of the 80s and a 4-disc boxed set called the Finer Things in the mid 90s.  Chronicles includes a total of 10 songs but only 5 of them were ones I wanted.  Finer Things included too many songs I didn't care about and was too expensive.  Finally we get Revolutions which includes all of his major hits.  My Fave... "While You See A Chance"... Take It :)

I've always liked the Dixie Chicks, even when I was still anti-country music, but never bought one of their albums.  The Essential is actually more than essential, it is a career complete collection of all of their best songs including hits:  "Not Ready To Make Nice", "Long Time Gone", "Ready To Run", "Cowboy Take Me Away", "Goodbye Earl", and "Wide Open Spaces".  My Fave... "Easy Silence"
Back in the 90s, Bon Jovi released a very good single disc collection called Cross Road.  So I wasn't immediately sold on a new collection.  But Bon Jovi have had several more hits since Cross Road, this collection is two discs, and the only song being sacrificed was "In And Out Of Love" from their not so successful second album.  This collection adds "It's My Life", "Have A Nice Day", "We Weren't Born To Follow", and "Who Says You Can't Go Home".  My Fave... "Livin' On A Prayer" (a classic)

P!nk has been a machine when it comes to turning out hits so it didn't come as much of a surprise when this collection was announced.  This is one of the rare times when literally every song on the disc is a bonafide hit (excluding the second of the two new songs which won't be a hit because even its title includes a starred out F-bomb): "Get The Party Started", "Don't Let Me Get Me", and "So What".  My Fave... "Please Don't Leave Me"
This is another artist I've liked but not enough to buy any of their albums.  Some might consider it a reach for Nelly Furtado to put out a greatest hits collection but she did choose to call it a best-of so let's give her a break.  This collection includes:  "I'm Like A Bird", "Turn Off The Light", "Promiscuous", and "Maneater".  My Fave... "Say It Right"

I didn't really pass on any notable Greatest Hits collections this year.  There really just weren't many and that trend will likely continue as CDs are phased out in favor of single song digital music downloads.  I'm still hopeful that AC/DC (they came close with the Iron Man 2 Soundtrack), Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Nickelback, Coldplay, Shakira, and John Mayer will release CD collections in the near future... perhaps 2011 will be the year?
