Back from Land's End

I spent last week down in Mexico... Cabo San Lucas to be precise. I was there with my sister and my parents who used three years worth of their timeshare points to get us all a week in a nice one bedroom unit at the Fiesta Americana resort. We were there in the midst of Spring Break so there were more high school and college aged people than normal. We also learned that it was Semana Santa (Mexican holy week leading up to Easter Sunday).

The mid-80's weather was perfect (although my mom—a.k.a. "Juan B."—would argue with that assertion because offshore winds dropped the temperature into the 60's on two evenings). We spent most of the time at the resort by the pool or on the beach. We ventured into the city four times. The first two trips were by rental car driven with skillfully and without incident by my stepfather, David—a.k.a. "el Red". The car was mainly so we could stock up on cerveza y agua (beer and water) at the local Costco, and so my mom could shop at a nick-nack shop along the highway (twice!).

On our second trip into town we ate breakfast just off the beach at The Office. In all, we ate three dinners downtown. The first was sort of by mistake because the restaurant my mom really wanted to go (Marisco's Mazatlan) to had moved up the street. We corrected that by eating at Marisco's on our last night. The best dinner we had in Cabo was at Mi Casa where we went to celebrate Kristin's birthday. The food was great and Kristin got a surprise shot of tequila from our waiter while the Troubadours sang ¡Feliz Cumpleaños! (Happy Birthday). After that we stopped at Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo where my mom and I each enjoyed a shot of Cabo Wabo Añejo which I have to say was the smoothest, most enjoyable shot of tequila I've ever had.

This was easily one of the most relaxing vacations I've ever had. A big thanks goes out to my parents for providing the accommodations and most of the food, and to Kristin for covering the airfare for her favorite U-Haul truck driver ;)
